  • Yes, some good coffee will get accidentally rejected alongside your defects. This is called “Carryover Rate.” If you have 100 beans of coffee that get rejected, and 25 of those beans are “good” beans, your Carryover Rate is 25%, making your reject accuracy rate 75%. When sorted with a Pearl Mini, most coffees have a Carryover Rate of 10 to 25%. Under some circumstances, it can go up to 30%.

  • While it varies by coffee, many specialty coffees with a cup score of 80-88 points will see an improvement of at least one point after post-roast sorting, with many seeing a jump of 2-3 points. Sorting is particularly effective on natural coffees, where one of our customers, Jess Steffy at Square One Coffee, has seen 4 point cup score improvements on an Ethiopia Natural. The cost difference between an 83-point coffee and an 85-87-point coffee can be substantial, and savings would generally exceed the cost of the coffee you sort out. This allows Sovda clients to offer great coffees at lower prices while paying farmers more.

  • In addition to custom conveyance layouts we can assist with during your ordering process, you can specify any color finish for the Pearl Mini. Provide us with the RAL number in the order form to choose a custom color for an additional USD 1,000 per machine. This could add up to four weeks of production time.

  • Your Pearl Mini will come compatible with the electric you select.

  • The Pearl Mini commissioning & training is performed by a Sovda technician. Commissioning takes one day, and we spend another day training your team, cupping coffees if desired, and optimizing your recipes alongside you.

If you prefer having a Sovda technician on-site to assist with assembly and installation, we offer an Uncrate and Assembly service that adds three days to the standard commissioning.
